Sunday 2/18:

Breakfast: Chocolatey Chip Pancake Poptarts

Rationale: I normally don’t eat breakfast since I don’t go to work until the afternoon. I went to Church so I ate breakfast. This was the first time I ate these Poptarts that are surprisingly dairy-free. I thought these Poptarts would have dairy in them for sure! I’m glad they didn’t because these Poptarts are really good!

Lunch: Tres Potrillos: Carnita Fries w/ Chips & Salsa

Plus they had egg & cheese casserole. Which doesn’t do well with my dairy allergy & my not so severe egg allergy. I can eat eggs baked in cakes or other baked goods! My Mom did make me something I can eat. Which I appreciate that! Eating Peaches & Oreos puts this meal as a really good meal.

Ben Alexander Eats of the Month

February 24, 2024 by Ben

January 2024

Welcome to Ben Alexander’s Eats of the Month. I’m going to share my favorite dishes I ate this month! I will explain why I chose them and how they can be allergy-friendly for you!

Food #1: Six Hundred Downtown Pizza

Rationale: Six Hundred Downtown Pizza is a pizza place in Bellefontaine, Ohio. I went with my Young Adult group at my Church. We went tubing at Mad River Mountain in Bellefontaine, Ohio & we decided to eat here. Personally I love their pizza. It was hot & fresh. It was really good even when I had it the next day. My Mom put the pizza in the oven along with my dairy-free cheese. I personally recommend eating here. They did such a great job in dealing with my allergies. I did have some confusion with the menu & they did a great job in clarifying and double checking to make sure my food was dairy-free. If you have allergies just communicate to your waiter/waitress & you should be fine eating here at Six Hundred Downtown Pizza.

Food #2: China Wok

Rationale: I love their sweet & sour chicken along with their fried rice & beef & broccoli. It is a really good to eat. I also love their sweet & sour shrimp, but my family never orders it for me, they don’t like the smell or taste. That’s fine, but I really enjoy this Chinese restaurant in Marysville, Ohio.

Food #3: Owyn Protein Shakes

Rationale: Owyn is a plant protein shakes. I have had the Chocolate, Vanilla, and No Nut ButterCup Protein Shakes. I really do love these amazing protein shakes. This month was the first time I have ever had a protein shake in my entire life because most protein shakes have whey in it. Whey has dairy in it so that’s a no-go for me since I am extremely allergic to dairy. I saw these at my local Walmart. Unfortunately I haven’t seen them where I found them. I know there other plant protein shake mix that is dairy-free I’ll have to check out sometime in the future.

Food #4: Chipotle Chicken

Rationale: I really love their chicken. I got the burrito bowl & it was really good! I normally get the steak whenever I go to Chipotle. I got the chicken because I had $10 on a chipotle gift card & the chicken made the bowl less than $10 so I decided to eat the chicken. I really do love that chicken! I like Chipotle a lot. It is a great mexican fast-casual restaurant that I really enjoy to eat at. Plus it is allergy friendly & never having an allergic reaction eating at Chipotle.

Food #5: John Soules Southern Style Chicken Sandwich

Rationale: I found these at my local Walmart. They’re dairy-free & I really enjoyed eating them. I had no allergic reaction & I really can’t complain about them at all. If you find these at your local retailer I would pick them up & eat them for a quick dinner!

Lunch: Leftover Chicken Tortilla Soup!

Rationale: At that point I was still sick and wanted to stay safe and eat dairy-free chicken tortilla soup that my Mom made.

Dinner: Homemade Pizza that my Mom made, carrots, & my Grandma’s Pumpkin Bread

Rationale: When my family makes food they know my allergies plus it is really good, and I can’t complain at all.

Tuesday 1/16:

Lunch: Leftover Pizza

Rationale: A quick lunch and I’m going to work!

Dinner: Campbell’s Soup & Sour Patch Kids

Rationale: My friend at work gave me Sour Patch Kids, which are dairy-free. My work decided to give all its staff Campbell’s soup, one was sirloin steak & potato soup the other was a chicken noodle soup. I don’t have the exact names of the soup, but I was still struggling with sickness and having soup definitely helps with the cold.

Snack: Grandma’s Pumpkin Bread

Rationale: I wasn’t full from the two bowls of soup at dinner so I decided to eat some pumpkin bread!

Wednesday 1/17:

Lunch: Corn Dogs

Rationale: They’ve been a go-to for me! I really enjoy these dairy-free corn dogs!

Dinner: Arby’s: Chicken nuggets, curly fries, & apple turnover

Rationale: It’s Arby’s and I love their dairy-free apple turnovers & I couldn’t resist the chicken nuggets and the curly fries.

Rationale: it is hard to find dairy-free corn dogs, but Foster Farms big corn dogs are dairy-free. That’s why I keep eating them!

Dinner: Sheetz: Chicken Stripz, Fryz, and a JJ’s Bakery Chocolate Pie & Banana Cream Pie

Rationale: I love going to Sheetz, their chicken stripz & fryz are dairy-free & you can’t really screw around with that! I also had a JJ Bakery’s Banana Cream Pie for the first time & I was really impressed, I like them and would get them again. Plus the classic JJ’s Bakery Chocolate Pie is still really good as well. I had two pies instead of one because I was really hungry!

Friday 1/19:

Rationale: We had a Chili Cook Off at our Church & My Mom made Chili. I didn’t eat anyone else’s chili because I wasn’t sure if they had dairy in it. I’m cautious because I can see people adding cheese and sour cream in their chili beforehand. I’m very cautious and I don’t want to have an allergic reaction. If you’re in a party type of situation ask the person who made the food, find a family member and hope they bring food, or bring your own food. Those are the three options you have.

Dinner: Chicken Strips, raisins, & gummy worms

Rationale: I really love the Kirkwood Chicken Strips from Aldi. Add raisins & gummy worms & I would say you got a really good meal right there.

Taco Bell: It’s Good!!!

January 21, 2024 by Ben

I have eaten at Taco Bell and I have always gotten Cinnamon Twists only. Once we tried to get tacos but they screwed up my order so many times we gave up. Luckily things have gotten better and I was able to eat some food that I wasn’t allergic to.

Taco Bell Ingredients List: https://www.tacobell.com/ingredients

Cinnamon Twists

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: There’s a reason I kept ordering these delicious delicacies everytime I go to Taco Bell because they’re really good and don’t have any dairy in them.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: It does contain Wheat as that is the only allergen present here.

Nacho Fries

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I really like these fries. I wish they were here year round. When there are commercials when Nacho Fries are back, I’m definitely going to make sure that I’m stopping at Taco Bell to grab the Nacho Fries.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I unfortunately couldn’t find any allergy information when it came to the Nacho Fries, but I would assume it has gluten in it, so if you have a gluten allergy I would make sure to check Taco Bell’s Website when ordering them. Since it is a limited time menu item they will hopefully have it up again, they should because I was able to see the fries didn’t have dairy in them!

Tacos

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Going home and putting my dairy-free cheese in the microwave plus steak and lettuce in a taco, it is really good and I like that I can eat their tacos and not worry about an allergic reaction

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: You can customize with any allergy & you can mix and match tacos with your allergies so that is really good. Worst comes to worst you can order the taco toppings then come home and put the toppings on whatever you’re thinking. I got mine without cheese and put dairy-free cheese when I got home because I’m allergic to dairy. Think of your allergies and you can customize a taco according to your allergies.

Nachos

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I really enjoyed Taco Bell’s Nachos. I put dairy-free cheese on when I got home and I was able to enjoy the warm nachos. I was really happy with my meal. The chips were really good and I’m thankful Taco Bell has dairy-free nachos.

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: There are no allergens in the nacho chips. Taco Bell’s website says no allergens present so that’s good. Anyone can enjoy the nacho chips!

Allergy Rating of Entire Restaurant: 3 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I always use the kiosk or the Taco Bell app when I order my stuff. My food comes out right, when I order with a person taking my order it tends to get screwed up because they used to have a thing where fresco was the words they communicated when there is supposed to be no cheese and people didn’t understand that and that is why my order got screwed up. I wish they would just say no cheese, but who knows they might’ve changed it. I will give Taco Bell credit and they have made it easier for people like me to eat there and ensure my order is right and that is why I have given it a good rating. Like always be careful and double check the order even though you put it in the order yourself it is a good idea to check, trust me when you don’t double check your food that’s when allergic reactions happen. Overall, I recommend Taco Bell to anyone who wants to check it out.

Ben Alexander Eats of the Week 1/8-1/14

January 17, 2024 by Ben

Monday 1/8:

Dinner: Chicken Fried Rice Healthy Choice Meal w/ TastyKake Iced Honey Bun & Haribo Sweet & Sour Hearts!

Rationale: I took a risk on the Chicken Fried Rice, my parents avoid eating fried rice w/eggs, but I was fine. My family tried dishes like my Chicken Teriyaki that my sister made with eggs in it. Most of the time eggs mixed into things like cake are fine, but eggs not mixed into eggs like the eggs in this fried rice can cause allergic reactions. Granted, there weren’t a whole lot of eggs in the Healthy Choice meal & that might explain why I can eat it. The Iced Honey Bun and the gummy sweet and sour hearts were a good add to my Healthy Choice meal.

Rationale: I enjoy this meal, plus adding peaches & gummy bears as side dishes. That’s a great way to use leftover sausage from last night.

Dinner: Asian Cafe, I got Sweet & Sour Chicken, fried rice, green beans, potatoes, frog legs & a fortune cookie.

Rationale: I love eating here & it never disappoints. I ate slower than usual and I had an hour lunch break before I headed off to work so I didn’t get Jello for my dessert, which is normally a go-to dessert for me.

Sunday 1/14:

Lunch: Culver’s: Chicken Tenders & Fries, raisins, & grandma’s zucchini and pineapple bread

Rationale: I was sick (hints why I must’ve not eaten as much at the Asian Cafe) and my parents brought me home Culver’s & it was a pretty good meal like usual. My grandma is awesome for baking me this, especially when I’m sick

Dinner: Chicken Tortilla Soup, peaches, & grandma’s zucchini & pineapple bread

Rationale: It is perfect for me since I’m running a cold & coughing off & on. I have had worse colds, but the Chicken Tortilla soup was a good meal idea by my Mom. My Dad went to the store & bought some peaches & to top that off with my grandma’s zucchini & pineapple bread, you can’t really complain!

Rationale: My parents had Chinese food as well and they said to eat their leftovers.

Wednesday 12/20:

Snack: Huey Magoo’s French Fries

Rationale: I went to get my friend a gift card for Christmas (he really liked it) and I wanted to try the fries while I was going to Huey’s as well. The fries were well seasoned and delicious.

Rationale: I was going to skip breakfast when my Dad offered to toast up the Strawberry Milkshake Pop Tarts so I accepted his offer and ate breakfast.
