Gold Star Chili, Does It Do Well With Allergies?

October 23, 2024 by Ben

Gold Star Chili Allergen Menu: go to their menu and click on a food item you want and there is a tab for allergens. It is basically the same statement for every item.

I remember eating Gold Star Chili when I was in Middle School. I was at a conference called Believe and we went to a mall food court and I ate Gold Star Chili. I remember eating Chicken strips and fries when I ate there.

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I remember eating their chicken and fries and that should be good enough to give the food a five-star rating! Though I haven’t had one since middle school since we don’t have a Gold Star Chili in Central Ohio.

Allergy Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I’m Concerned about how they communicate their allergies on their website. For dairy can I get the items served without cheese? For the burgers can you remove the bun and can it be gluten-free? My point is that it isn’t specific enough for me to make a decision and if I were to go there again, I would have to ask their workers to see if I could get a burger, fries that would be dairy-free. I like their idea, but it needs to be communicated a little better. Could I get regular fries without cheese? Could I get a burger or Chili without cheese? Is the Hot Dog dairy-free. If you’re a part of Gold Star Chili in some way I’m not trying to nitpick and criticize you, I’m trying to help you serve guests with allergies better with the perspective of someone who has food allergies. If that is improved, I will definitely give you a stronger rating. I did eat at Gold Star without an allergic reaction and as long as you communicate your allergies and I believe you can eat here without an allergic reaction. It is definitely worth a shot to try and see if you can eat here.

Bob Evans: Is it Friendly Towards Allergies?

October 23, 2024 by Ben

Bob Evans Allergen Menu: https://assets.ctfassets.net/81w9kb7f1jq4/63C5jVYK6sIXMCuNTJPNqe/cff0b0928277dfdf96eebdb86bbdeff0/Allergens_08242023.pdf

I have eaten at Bob Evans since I was a kid. I remember liking their food. It is a very popular restaurant chain that is across America and my parents, friends, and grandparents always enjoyed eating here.

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I enjoyed their corn meal mush, sourdough bread, sausage, bacon, fries, and burgers! I haven’t had a bad meal when it comes to the quality of food and I have very much enjoyed my food!

Allergy Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I have had a couple of allergic reactions eating the burgers here. I remember rushing home to take my albuterol (which is my go-to medicine) . I want to use that to get the allergic reaction out of my system before I turn to the Auvi-Q which I haven’t had to use, and hopefully never have to use. That would mean a hospital trip because they want to make sure nothing weird happens with the medicine in the Auvi-Q. That is why I try to avoid using that at all costs. I remember getting itchy skin as well. I would be very careful eating here, with that said I have had times where I didn’t have an allergic reaction, be careful eating here, tell the waiter/waitress of your food allergy and check their allergen menu. I would eat here, but use caution!

Kirke’s: A Great Ice Cream Shop

October 23, 2024 by Ben

Kirke’s Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057562894963

I visited St.Clairsville, Ohio with my family and we were looking for a dessert after eating Chipotle. The Women plus my Cousin went Shopping, & It was me, my uncle, brother, & Dad. My Dad made the executive decision to try Kirke’s. There was a Sheetz next to the place and I thought if there wasn’t anything dairy-free I could go over there since they have dairy-free desserts, but they had Oat-Milk dairy-free ice cream.

They had different flavors: I saw they had cookies and cream and I was hoping they had it, but they didn’t. It was down to Chocolate Chip Mint or Whitehouse (It has lots of Cherries in it) so I decided to eat the Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream!

Food Rating 5 out of 5 Stars: It was pretty good. I enjoyed my ice cream and I got two scoops in the bowl and I really enjoyed eating my ice cream. It wasn’t as minty as I thought, but this was my first time eating mint flavored ice cream, but it was still pretty good and I thought it was creamy and delicious.

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: They had dairy-free ice cream. That is hard to find in a small ice cream shop. Though ice cream shops are starting to realize that they need to provide dairy-free options due to people like me having severe dairy allergies, & lactose intolerant people.

I highly recommend eating at Kirke’s in St. Clairsville, Ohio!

Cracker Barrel: A Good Old-Fashioned Meal

This Restaurant is one of my family’s favorites and it was hard for me to find dairy-free food at Cracker Barrel so I wasn’t very excited to eat there, but things have changed and I’m more willing to eat it more than I have in the past because Cracker Barrel has giving me more options to eat, so I credit them! There is a Shop before you go into the restaurant where you can find lots of allergy-friendly candy so that’s a plus!

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: There are so many food options and you got plenty of food. I know I have had burgers, fish, meatloaf, and I went to Cracker Barrel with my family to celebrate my Grandpa’s 90th birthday. I went through the allergen menu & I was very happy to see that the Southern Fried Chicken was dairy-free. The meal came with four pieces of fried chicken, two sides (steak fries and fried okra) & cornbread/biscuits, which I substituted for multigrain toast since that was dairy-free. My food has been pretty good and can’t complain about the food! Though I wish they would bring back the raisin bran muffins because they were my favorite thing till they took them away, and my favorite thing currently is the Southern Fried Chicken!

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: The Staff has been really nice to me dealing with my food allergies. Plus they have went above and beyond communicating what’s in their food. Having a Catering Food Allergy Menu and Another For the Restaurant tells me they take food allergies seriously. I know I struggled to find stuff that is dairy-free, but they have corrected their actions and they were always  good at communicating what is safe even if there is a lot I am allergic to.

Personally, I highly recommend eating at Cracker Barrel. Just communicate your food allergies and you’ll be fine!

City Sweets and Creamery: A Unique Twist

October 18, 2024 by Ben

City Sweets and Creamery: A Unique Twist

I went to this place looking for a quick dessert. They don’t have dairy-free ice cream unfortunately, but I found some Gummy Soldiers.

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: I really enjoyed my gummy Soldiers. I got them for $2 in a nice sized bag. It definitely was a great dessert choice. The gummy soldiers tasted exactly like a gummy should taste. Very soft, not chewy.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: They had all their allergens labeled for their ice cream. For the rest of the desserts I didn’t see labels. Though they might be working on getting labels on them, so just go and see where it is. I do wish they had dairy-free ice cream, cakes, etc. but at least they were honest and labeled the ice cream. I would assume that the rest of the desserts have dairy. Get the bagged stuff where you can read the ingredients. They got gummies, cotton candy, so there are still options if you’re looking for a quick dessert.

If you’re hungry and looking for a dessert I would try City Sweets & Cremery!

Shake Shack: A Fast Food Place that Gets Food Allergies

October 18, 2024 by Ben

I went to Shake Shack and there are many locations around the country and you can find one by just doing a simple Google search.

I drove about 20-30 minutes to get to one. The closest location to my hometown of Marysville, Ohio was in Dublin, Ohio.

Shake Shack is a fast food place with burgers, hot dogs, shakes & more. Now let me share my experience with you!

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: I really enjoyed the non-dairy chocolate shake. That is what made it five stars. It tasted like chocolate shake and you could really taste the chocolate and it was really good! I enjoyed their crinkle cut fries. It reminds me of Culver’s and Arby’s crinkle cut fries. They were well salted and I have no complaints about the fries. I had a burger with a gluten-free bun. Their buns had dairy in them and I got a gluten-free bun. The gluten-free bun was solid. I do prefer regular (gluten-filled) buns better, but it is better than no bun.

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale. They have the ideal situation that every restaurant can copy off of. They have an allergen menu with the ingredients separated out. That’s how I knew about their buns containing dairy and how I found the gluten-free bun was dairy-free. They went above and beyond when it comes to food allergies.

On the kiosk to order you can tell the kitchen staff what allergies you have and it is easy to find the button to let them know. On the receipt it labels your allergens as well.

I did have a hard time find info what is in not milk. It is a dairy-free milk brand and it took me ten minutes to find the ingredients to not milk (I have never heard of it before) then I found it in the FAQ. I’m allergic to almonds and many other tree nuts so I didn’t want to have an allergic reaction because some non-dairy milk (like almond milk) will have tree nuts in it.

This is exactly what every restaurant should be transparent and honest with its customers about their allergens. I can adjust and make a personalized meal, but I can’t adjust to dishonest information, and this place is very honest and as a result I had no allergic reaction and I look forward to coming back here in the future. I highly recommend you try this place out.

Brewfontaine: A Great Place to Eat

October 18, 2024 by Ben

Brewfontaine: A Great Place to Eat

Brewfontaine is a restaurant in Bellefontaine, Ohio. It is a 30 minute drive from my hometown of Marysville, Ohio.

Food Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: The food was good and I definitely enjoyed eating the beef and the tater tots were really good, so I’ll have to come back and try some more foods to review.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: Brewfontaine has a wonderful kitchen staff. They helped me with what I could eat and checked their buns. Because people can put butter in their buns that means that it has dairy because butter has dairy in it.

The only thing that they can improve on is having an allergen menu on their website. It would be helpful to them and people with food allergies. We as a customer can be prepared in advance and we can just tell you what we want to eat (of course we allergy people need to tell them of our food allergies).
If Brewfontaine sees this and wants me to write an allergen menu I would be more than happy to do it. Just contact me through IG, email (ben@bensallergyandrestaurants.com), & Facebook (search Ben’s Allergy and Restaurant Reviews) or leave a comment where you watched/read this allergy and restaurant review( I have a website, it’s bensallergyandrestaurantreviews.com).

Stir Fresh: A Great Asian Cuisine

October 18, 2024 by Ben

Stir Fresh is an Asian Restaurant in Marysville, Ohio. You can either sit in or carryout. I carried out. I have had sit in before and it was good as well.

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: the sweet and sour chicken & sweet and sour shrimp are really good. I also enjoyed the rice I ate with it as well. The food was nice and fresh (like it’s in the name). The meal was less than $10 and I had plenty of food for the price. So it’s a great buy.

Allergy Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: the person taking my order was awesome she checked with the kitchen to make sure my food was dairy-free. The only thing is that they don’t have a website that I can view the menu. They do have a Facebook page, if you want to follow it. They have their menu on their Facebook page. I also grabbed a takeout menu as well.

They also don’t have an allergen menu on their Facebook page. This helps it make it easier for people that have food allergies to know what they can eat. If you own Stir Fresh and are seeing this I would love to help you write an allergen menu. My email is ben@bensallergyandrestaurantreviews.com and my IG handle is bensallergyrestaurantreviews. I do have a Facebook page as well. Search Ben’s Allergy and Restaurant Reviews and you should find my page. You can text me through Facebook as well.

I will also write an allergen menu for any business that wants one. I’m open to doing that for anyone.

Leon’s Garage: A Good Food Garage!

July 30, 2024 by Ben

I have been here before but I haven’t had it in a long time and I had an allergic reaction in the past, so I have avoided eating here. I changed my mind and gave this place a second chance and I’m glad I did. They improved since the last time I have been here!

Food: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: the brisket and tater tots were really good. I got it to go and I really enjoyed eating here!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I called Leon’s and the lady went into the back to make sure my food was age from allergies. I’m happy when restaurants improve from their mistakes. It is better when we give others second chances because it’s the right thing to do.

The only thing I would improve on is having an allergy menu on their website. If you own Leon’s Garage or another restaurant that wants to age an allergen menu. I will write one for by emailing me to ben@bensallergyandrestaurantreviews.com or DM me on Instagram. My handle is bensallergyrestaurantreviews.

Crazy Burrito: Is Crazy Good!

July 30, 2024 by Ben

I went to Crazy Burrito with my Dad & Brother. Crazy Burrito is a Mexican Restaurant in Marysville, Ohio. I haven’t been here in a very long time. This isn’t my first time but I haven’t been here in years because it is very expensive.

We went Last Monday Night because my Dad suggested it and me and my brother were fine eating there. I am surely glad that I did.

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I really enjoyed my tacos and mexican rice tonight. It was hot and really good. They loaded my tacos with beef and lettuce. The plate was really hot and that is a sign that they took the time to cook it well and they did.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: The waiter took my allergy seriously and my order was correct. I was very happy about that! The only thing is that they don’t have an allergen menu. The good news is that I can help with that! I want to write an allergen menu for you! If you own crazy burrito or another restaurant that wants me to write an allergen menu for you. You can email me at ben@bensallergyandrestaurantreviews.com or DM me on Instagram my IG handle is bensallergyrestaurantreviews.

I have had food allergies and I know what a food allergy menu should have since I have been relying on them for my whole life. I really want to help you serve people like me who have food allergies. It’s a win-win for you and me!

Overall, I highly recommend you try Crazy Burrito and I will say that it does accommodate food allergies so you don’t need to worry about having an allergic reaction.
