Ben's Allergy & Restaurant Reviews

Red Lobster: Is it Worth It?

December 4, 2023 by Ben

Red Lobster Allergen Menu: https://www.redlobster.com/nutrition-tools/food-allergy-wizard/

I remember eating Red Lobster while I was in high school a couple of times, but I haven’t had it for a while and I really don’t remember what entree I ate. I don’t know why that is. The only thing I might remember is the fries, and I thought the fries were good enough for me, I didn’t complain about them. I want to go back and eat it again! I just don’t have it often because there isn’t one in my hometown of Marysville, Ohio. If I were ordering food I would get the chicken tenders and fries. Though they have fish and steak that I would consider ordering with my fries as well. There are options for me that are dairy-free. If I were you I would look into the allergy menu wizard and type in your allergies and it will show you what foods are friendly towards your allergy.

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: When I ate here, I had no allergic reactions. They have an easy to use allergy menu on their website. They took my allergy really seriously. I highly recommend you try it out if you’re on the fence. If you communicate your allergy you won’t have any problems eating here. It is definitely worth a try!

Pizza Hut: The Truth about Their Handling of Allergies

December 4, 2023 by Ben

Pizza Hut Allergen Menu: https://www.nutritionix.com/pizza-hut/menu/special-diets/premium?desktop

I will personally say that I started eating Pizza Hut since high school. I was searching for dairy-free pizza places and I found Pizza Hut to be very safe and effective. I have not had an allergic reaction since I have been eating there. I do wish they didn’t put dairy in the icing of the Cinnamon Sticks because they changed the recipe while I started eating there, the cinnamon sticks were really good! That is the only thing I did wish Pizza Hut would’ve not done, but everything else has been good.

Wings

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Every time I have had the wings (boneless or traditional) I have been pleased to tell you that it is worth. The meat is juicy and I really enjoyed the breading and I thought they were hot and fresh! I would say these wings are defenetely worth a try!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Gluten-Free people should stay away. Good news for Gluten-Free people is that Pizza Hut has a Gluten-Free crust and I would recommend you go to that. I have never had the crust myself, but if I were a betting man, I would say it would be good.

Pizza

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I love the Pan Pizza! It is my favorite, though most of the time I get hand tossed or thin & crispy. Pan Pizza costs more money, so that is the only unfortunate thing! They had toppings to cover the pizza, it felt like you had the right amount of toppings!

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Anyone can customize the pizza the way they want to here. With the Pizza Hut having a Gluten-Free crust truly anyone can enjoy pizza here!

Fries

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: It was a really nice fry and I really enjoyed it! Not to mention it was hot and fresh too!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: They have a coating on the fries that contains Gluten! But for everyone else I highly recommend you trying Pizza Hut’s French Fries.

Cinnamon Sticks

Food Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: When Pizza Hut didn’t have dairy in their icing this was a 5 star food, but since they decided to put dairy in their icing, that made me take a star away from this food item. If they bring back the old dairy-free icing I will change my mind and put it back to five stars (maybe they changed it back without my notice). I like that they’re fresh and I like the cinnamon is just the right amount, but I will have to buy icing at the store if I want icing, so it isn’t an entirely big deal, but it is annoying that it comes with icing that has dairy in it, luckily it hasn’t spilled while transporting home (that would be a disaster for me)!

Allergy Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Rationale: In addition to the icing having dairy in it, Gluten-Free people should not eat this and it also contains soy. If you have a soy allergy you shouldn’t be eating this as well.

Allergy Rating of the Entire Restaurant: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: They make sure they change their gloves and use separate utensials from my experience at least. They take care of people with allergies. There is someone who works at the Pizza Hut in Marysville, Ohio that has a dairy allergy and knows the precautions to take. If you have another allergy you will be likely to be treated the same as I was, so I would definetely eat at this location and hopefully other Pizza Huts do the same. I got Pizza Hut in Pennyslvania and Mount Vernon, Ohio and didn’t have any allergic reactions so I think it is pretty safe across the board.

Papa John’s: Is it Worth the Risk?

December 4, 2023 by Ben

Papa John’s Allergen Menu: https://www.papajohns.com/allergens/papa-johns-allergen-guide.html

I remember having Papa John’s since I was a kid, we had one in Marysville, Ohio but it unfortunately closed down. They had a cinnamon sugar dessert pizza that was amazing! I was excited to eat that thing when I was a little boy. Now they don’t have any desserts that I can eat. The Cinnamon Pull-aparts have dairy in it and they are the closest thing to the dessert pizza. Papa John’s still does have dairy-free options for me to eat and that is good.

Pizza

Food Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I do like that they add dairy-free garlic sauce for free. That is my favorite part about Papa John’s Pizza. I had Papa John’s all the time in college. I personally really enjoyed the pizza. I never complained when I got Papa John’s. The Original crust is pretty good for me! I remember they used to have a pan pizza, but they no longer sell it. I highly recommend Papa John’s Pizza for anyone looking to eat some pizza tonight.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: You can customize crusts to your likings. They do have a Gluten-Free crust that does have dairy in it. If you are allergic to dairy and gluten it is not a good idea to eat the pizza here! Instead eat the Roasted Wings.

Roasted Wings

Food rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: They were juicy and fresh and I really enjoyed eating them!

Allergy rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Vegans and people who are allergic to Sesame should stay away from this product, but for everyone else bon appetit!

Breadsticks

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Papa John’s is one of the few restaurants that offer dairy-free breadsticks. I really enjoyed the breadsticks I partook in.

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Gluten-Free people are the only ones who shouldn’t be eating this!

Allergy Rating of Restaurant: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I enjoyed my items without an allergic reaction and the allergy menu is easy to read and they have updated it, so you know it is good.

Panera Bread: Is There Anything Allergy Friendly?

December 4, 2023 by Ben

Panera Bread Allergen Menu: https://www.panerabread.com/content/dam/panerabread/documents/c4-allergen-guide.pdf

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I always get the bacon and sausage on a bagel. Basically it is a bagel sandwich with bacon & sausage in it. It is hot and fresh and I have really enjoyed it.

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

There are options for people with every kind of allergy. I just explain what I can do with a dairy allergy. If you are gluten-free, you can get yogurt, fruit, and meat. Vegans can enjoy fruit and certain types of bagels. People with soy allergies can enjoy the bread except the whole grain lahvash wrap contains soy, plus many more options. If you want to look more either check the website on top of my allergy & restaurant review & I would always ask the workers to make sure you food is free of your allergy. I have had no allergic reactions and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good breakfast!

Panda Express: Is It Worth It?

November 27, 2023 by Ben

Panda Express Allergen Menu: https://s3.amazonaws.com/PandaExpressWebsite/files/pdf/Nutrition_2030118.pdf

Panda Express Stirs Up a Whole Menu of Dairy-Free Dishes

I remember eating at Panda Express at Easton Mall for a DECA competition. I used to be in a business club called DECA while I was in high school and I was getting food from a competition because we had it in a place that no longer exists (KDB Arcade), but I managed to have no allergic reactions eating the food. I had Chicken Potstickers and White Rice.

Chicken Potstickers

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I really enjoyed eating the potstickers! They were hot and fresh!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Vegans, gluten-free, and people who are allergic to soy should avoid eating them!

White Rice

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: The rice wasn’t crunchy at all! Rice is one of the few foods that I don’t like crunchy. Is there anyone who like crunchy rice anyway? If you do please let me know!

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: There is no allergen present! If you are allergic to rice, please let me know so I can be more aware and highlight all the allergies I can, because that is my goal here. I want to make sure everyone who has an allergy has recognition.

Allergy Rating of the Restaurant: 2 out of 5 stars

Rationale: There is some confusion as to whether the fortune cookies have dairy or not. According to godairyfree.org the fortune cookies have no dairy in them, but on the Panda Express allergen menu the fortune cookies have dairy in them. If I were you I would ask to see if they do have dairy in them, or hopefully the wrapped package will tell you. I haven’t been to one in a while, so I couldn’t really tell you what to think off.

Also there are supposedly Tree Top Apple Crisps that are dairy-free as well according to godairyfree.org and honestly I can’t tell you when the last time Panda Express updated their allergen menu on the bottom of the website it states the year 2015, so the allergen menu hasn’t been updated in a while. Plus the last time I went to a Panda Express in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee they said that they cross contaminate the utensils so they couldn’t serve me since that location didn’t have potstickers. It could’ve been that location, but I would communicate to the person taking your order that you have a food allergy. I’m concerned about this place for food allergy safety. On the plus side their allergy menu is easy to read!

Outback Steakhouse: Is It Worth It?

November 27, 2023 by Ben

Outback Steakhouse Allergen Menu: https://edge.sitecorecloud.io/osi-60501bcc/media/Project/BBI/outback/static-pages/Obs-Full-Allergens-Information.pdf

I have eaten at Outback Steakhouse a couple of times, but it has been a while for me. I remember eating their fries and really enjoying them. I might’ve gotten a steak! Though I haven’t had had it in a while since I don’t have an Outback Steakhouse in my hometown of Marysville, Ohio. I still enjoyed it enough to where I would happily go back and eat it again!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: Some of the steaks have dairy in them. That is pretty disappointing, but there is ribs, other steaks (prime rib, bone in ribeye, and melbourne porterhouse steaks are dairy free) The regular ribeye steak has dairy in it, and the chicken tenders are dairy-free. Plus there is Gold Coast Coconut shrimp. There are options available and have a wide menu of all types of different foods. I would go to the link above and check out their allergen menu to see if there is anything that is friendly towards your allergy. I would highly recommend eating here because I haven’t had any allergic reactions eating here.

Mod Pizza: Is it worth it?

November 27, 2023 by Ben

Mod Pizza Allergen Menu: https://modpizza.com/allergen/

If you have never heard of Mod Pizza, it is like a pizza chipotle where you can pick out your toppings and sauce. I have always loaded my pizza with toppings, pretty much every meat, mushrooms, green peppers, and corn. There is a bonus that Mod’s has that regular pizza places don’t, dairy-free cheese. It’s good for me, vegans, and anyone else who is allergic to dairy.

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I have enjoyed every pizza I have eaten here. They make it fresh and they put your pizza into a giant fire oven and I really love it, and this is my favorite pizza place of all-time if I had to be honest. The crust isn’t spicy at all, so I really love it! Unfortunately I don’t have time to eat it because it is a half-hour away, so it makes it hard to regularly eat here.

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I have never had an allergic reaction eating here. I highly recommend it! There is gluten-free crusts like their gluten friendly crust and cauliflower crust (if you’re allergic to dairy this crust does has dairy in it). It is very vegan friendly they have plant-based sausage and of course veggies. Vegetarians should love that! They changed their gloves and even got toppings separate from where dairy isn’t present. They went above and beyond to make sure my pizza didn’t have dairy in it or around it. They’ll do the same for you just let them know you have an allergy! Plus, there is literally a pizza for everyone and I think the only thing they can improve is a dairy-free dessert, if they make a dairy-free dessert there will be no weakness when it comes to the restaurant and I highly recommend eating here.

An Honest Review Allergy & Restaurant Review of McDonald’s

November 27, 2023 by Ben

McDonald’s UK Link for Allergies: https://www.mcdonalds.com/content/dam/sites/uk/nfl/pdf/nutrition/allergen-leaflet-020823.pdf

I remember going to McDonald’s since I was a kid and playing on the playsets and eating some food. I remember liking their burgers, chicken McNuggets, and eating their apple slices, and I enjoy their apple pies as well. I have eaten at McDonald’s for a long time and I wanted to give my take on how McDonald’s deals with food allergies.

I googled “McDonald’s Allergen Menu” and the first one that came up on Google was an allergen menu for the UK. If you live or visiting in the UK then it is perfect for you, but since I live in the USA that will not work for me. I did find websites like godairyfree.org that gave me the information I needed to decide whether McDonald’s was the right choice for me. Which McDonald’s does have plenty of options for me to eat, but the one food I want to eat is french fries, but those have dairy and I cannot do that since I am allergic to dairy. Since McDonald’s is so popular their are lots of websites writing about allergies at McDonald’s and if you just google it you will be fine and make sure you take the time to research and scroll down on Google to find it. But you should find your allergy and see what you can eat and not eat.

Chicken McNuggets

Food rating: 3 of 5 stars

Rationale: I really enjoy their chicken and it is pretty good. I don’t eat it often, but when I do I seem to like it a lot. It isn’t overly dry and isn’t cold when I eat it.

Allergy rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rationale: Vegans and gluten people should stay away from this, but if you don’t have those allergies than these McNuggets are a great choice for a meal or a snack.

McDonald’s Burgers

Food rating 3 of 5 stars

Rationale: As long as cheese isn’t on my burger I will be fine and I like their burgers. I like the buns and the patties. Just the patty and the bun at McDonald’s seems to be a good combo. I will get burger with lettuce on it as well, but I don’t go to McDonald’s very often, so I couldn’t tell you what extra toppings I got on my burger, but I wouldn’t say I had a bad burger from McDonald’s.

Allergy Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rationale: It was pretty much like the Chicken McNuggets. Vegans and Gluten- Free people shouldn’t partake, the bun for one, but if you are gluten-free you can skip the bun and eat the meat. Plus if you’re keto taking the bun of the burger is a great option as well. Burgers are really good allergy-free food because you can customize a burger any way you want it. Unfortuanately McDonald’s doesn’t have a vegan burger.

Apple Pie

Food Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Rationale: I really enjoy this dessert. When I was in college I remember coming to McDonald’s specifically to grab this treat with my friends. This is how good this Apple pie. It is always hot and I really enjoy eating that pie. It is the one thing that makes me want to eat at McDonald’s. I would highly recommend ordering yourself and Apple Pie if you are looking for a good treat.

Allergy rating 4 out of 5

Rationale: Gluten-free people should stay away from this because of the crust being filled with gluten. Other than that there is no other allergen concern that I have when it comes to the Apple Pies.

Allergy rating of Restaurant 2 out of 5 stars

Rationale: The food is allergy-friendly, but it is really hard to find a nice organized chart that isn’t based out of the UK. If you’re in the UK it’s perfect for you. The good news is that people on the internet just like me have wrote to help make sure people with food allergies can eat their safely. That is the only thing, I had to go to multiple websites to find the information I was looking for, so I would browse Google before going to McDonald’s. I still would recommend eating at McDonald’s because they got good food.

Marco’s Pizza: Is It Good?

November 27, 2023 by Ben

Marco’s Pizza Allergen Menu: https://www.nutritionix.com/marcos-pizza/menu/special-diets/premium

Chicken Wings

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: I really enjoy how juicy their wings are. I was so impressed with their wings and I would definitely recommend giving them a try!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: Gluten-Free people and Vegans, and people who have a sesame allergy should stay away, but everyone else is safe!

Pizza

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: I enjoy the big toppings, especially with their sausage. I get the all-meats pizza and I love it! The crust is pretty good as well!

Allergy Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: Vegans can enjoy the pizza crust and get veggies. Gluten-Free people can get pizza bowls (sorry there is no gluten-free crust!)

CinnaSquares

Food Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: I really enjoy eating these delicacies! I come to Marco’s Pizza because I can order Cinnasquares! It is basically cinnamon and sugar with Icing. It is really good & I love eating them! Finding desserts that are dairy-free are tough and I highly recommend eating them!

Allergy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Rationale: It contains Wheat and Soy!

Allergy Rating of Restaurant: 5 out of 5 Stars

Rationale: They have a readable allergen menu and I have never had an allergic reaction. I normally order through the app, I wish they had a special instructions button where you could tell them your allergy! Luckily I haven’t had an allergic reaction and have been fine! They screwed up my pizza once, but I got it resolved. That location I had that problem is closed so that isn’t a concern! I would highly recommend eating at Marco’s Pizza!

Longhorn Steakhouse: Is It Worth It?

November 27, 2023 by Ben

Longhorn Steakhouse Allergen Menu: https://media.longhornsteakhouse.com/en_us/pdf/nutrition_allergen_guide.pdf

*Page 13 has a gluten-free menu and page 14 has the rest of the allergens (you’ll have to scroll down to find the allergens).

I haven’t had Longhorn Steakhouse in a very long time. I enjoyed it enough to where I would go back and eat it again! I just don’t have one in Marysville, Ohio (my hometown). If I were to eat there again I would probably order Fire-grilled T-bone steak and their seasoned french fries. Though they’re lots of options to eat. Lots of steaks, ribs, salmon and pork chops.

Allergy Rating of Restaurant: 5 out of 5 stars

The good news is that they just updated their allergen menu (August 21st, 2023). They take their food very seriously and when I ate there I had allergic reactions and no concerns to where I would be concerned of that happening. For gluten-free people it is super easy to locate what you can eat because they have it in their menu exactly. They have lots of options and I would check their allergen guide and make sure what you are ordering is allergy-friendly. I would highly recommend eating there.
